the mountains

I always work in the studio. In painting on heavy handmade paper (mostly) I never want to make a representation of what I see, rather I take pictorial references as a mere source from which I can construct my own image, changing shapes or colours to suit a moody atmospheric representation. I do the merest pencil drawing and then  I paint an underwash of a very transparent colour ,mostly yellow ochre, I wait for this to dry , I then form the subject shape and  build up the image with other washes of varying intensity. I patiently wait for each wash to dry and the wait allows me to evaluate progress. David Wardman’s mountain paintings are available for purchase.                                 Send an email if you are interested in a work. Or call: 0418 965 071.
